LA Law, Law & Order, The Practice, Boston Legal, Canterbury’s Law, The Closer, Damages…

All those “TV Law Shows” portrayed/portray a glamorous lifestyle of lawyers.  They show you beautiful women (with shampoo-commercial hair) in fitted pantsuits and short-skirts (by some famous designer) or hot men with pumped muscles underneath their fitted (tight-as-hell) $2,000 suits.  The homes they live in are usually lofts (the size of football fields) or sleek condos with the ever-popular water wall trickling near the home-bar with the $400 wines.  They vacation in either Morocco or Fiji and they always win their cases and never really do any legal research.

Trust me when I tell you – that is not reality.  My lawyers do not look like Mariska Hargitay nor Harry Hamlin (in fact Harry Hamlin does not look like Harry Hamlin anymore.)

A lot of people “think” they want to become lawyers simply because of what they see portrayed on the little screen.  The reality is that fresh new attorneys spend their first 2 to 5 years stuck doing their associates’ & partners’ legal research.  They spend their years working 70 hour weeks and asking, “where’s the hot lawyers and my new sleek condo?”  Then, most burn out and shy away from “Law” altogether and go into something else.

If you want to become a lawyer, make sure it’s for the right reasons and NOT for the TV hype.
