The Merry Berry Drink recipe…

also known as the “Makes You Wanna Smack Yo Mama” drink.

You need a GLASS pitcher (plastic pitchers give off a “plasticy taste” to whatever beverage has alcohol) and you need fresh berries – raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. A bag of Frozen berries (without strawberries) may also be used and sometimes even better since the frozen berries are “fast-frozen” fresh and keeps the drink super cold (alcohol is better tasting when it’s chilled.) I use an average size bottle of 750ml vodka (Absolut) in this drink and you DON’T have to use a top-shelf vodka like Absolut or Finlandia, you just CANNOT use the cheapest stuff either…it will just make this drink rancid-tasting (trust me, I’ve tried. The cheaper brands are best for pureed fruit drinks with added sugar.) A 2-liter bottle of lemon-lime soda, I use Sprite. You also need 2cups of strawberry syrup mix – not strawberries (again I tried and fresh strawberries turn “white” and not so attractive.) Also, the juice of one lemon or two limes (I prefer the limes.)

It’s pretty easy: If you have the time, place the vodka in the freezer overnight (don’t worry, if you didn’t know, alcohol does NOT freeze)…the vodka will get viscous (syrupy) and slightly sweet. Pour the entire bottle of vodka into your glass pitcher, then throw your berries in (no strawberries) and stir the two together so that the berries can blend their flavors (and colors) with the vodka. then add a cup of the strawberry mix (this really just adds the “strawberry taste” plus sugar and color to the drink.) Add the juice of your lemon or limes. Then, add your lemon lime soda until it reaches the top of the pitcher. Stir well and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours for best flavor.  Most times I add fresh mint too.

Enjoy! :)
