In today’s economic uncertainty, you may not be able to afford luxuries anymore, but bills still have to be paid – especially your legal bills (fees.) If you are struggling to pay your electric bill or your cable bill, you know what happens: They’ll cut those utilities right off! However, your lawyer fits under the umbrella of “service,” and cannot be just “cut off.” This expense is a priority. If you are having financial trouble, speak to your lawyers – they may have solutions and provide some economic relief. For instance, lawyers may defer your payment to a week or two later, giving you some extra time to catch up. You may even try to “barter” for some payments with “your” services (I know of a friend, who instead of paying her monthly legal bill of $550.00, she has her lawyer’s child enrolled in her school of ballet – a $600.00 monthly value.) Not every lawyer would go for this bartering system, nor should be expected to.
Bottom line, if you’re having trouble paying your legal bills – TALK TO YOUR LAWYERS to find solutions where possible.

Scary. But good to know.
